Your son or daughter is at an away game that you couldn’t make. The phone rings and it’s the coach. Your young one went down with a knee injury. They were helped off the field and eventually able to walk but it hurt and they limped. Now what?

There was no Athletic Trainer there to check them out. Your pediatricians office can’t get them in for two days. The last time you went to the Emergency Dept at the hospital they took X-rays and said there was “…no fracture, it’s just a sprain, and you should ice and rest and see your doctor if it’s not better in a few days. No fracture was encouraging but you still felt unsettled about not knowing what was injured and what to do next. Uncertainty.

There are so many young athletes participating in sports out there, and unfortunately for some that means from time to time they may get injured. Lots of little bumps and bruises go away almost as quickly as they occurred and there’s little question that they don’t literally need to see a professional for every single little discomfort that comes up.
BUT, there are those other times, like the example above, where athletes, and parents, and coaches wish they knew more about what might be wrong and what would be some sensible next steps they could take to care for this injury. For the bad ones they’ve already headed to the Emergency Dept or Urgent Care or an Orthopedic Urgent Care because a major injury or a fracture or a tear was feared and immediate attention was warranted.

For so many injuries the pain and the limitations just don’t quite push everyone to urgent, immediate decisions to seek care but in the hours and days after the injury all are left still wondering what the next right step is. We’re hearing over and over again there’s a shortage of primary care services in most communities and some people are frustrated by long waits or being unable to be seen for days to get some early answers.

PEAK PERFORMANCE now is offering a solution to help you get some peace of mind and at least an early assessment of the injury to help you make good decisions for what to do next. You don’t have to rely on a caring relative’s opinion based on their prior knee injury experience, or a well intended suggestions of a coach who doesn’t have any formal training in injury assessment, or in the sometimes dismissive or overly reactive tendencies you might have as a parent or that your spouse has. You can get in quickly for a short 15 min visit to have a skilled Physical Therapist do an orthopedic screening exam for your young athlete to help identify what steps might be good options for you next.

Give us a call at 218-0240 if you’d like to pop in for a quick look at your young athlete’s injury you’re just not sure what to do with.
